It was February 2007 when auditions began for Indian Idol Season 3. Six months later, the most popular season of the show comes to its grand finale. With only a week to go before the winner is found, Indian Idol is heading for an exciting and nail- biting finish. With both finalists high on the popularity list, it is going to be tough for the viewers to select one amongst them as the winner. May the best man win is the heartfelt prayer. So who is India going to vote for? Who will walk away with the title Indian Idol Bharat Ki Shaan? Will it be the cool cop from Darjeeling, Prashant Tamang or will it be the dark horse from Shillong, Amit Paul? Ab Bharat ki haathon mein hai Bharat ki Shaan!

There have been loads of excitement and drama at every Gala and buckets of tears shed during the Saturday eviction. The show & the viewers have lost some of its good singers to voting. As a run-up to the most exciting finale, it is going to be a week long celebration of Indian Idol on Sony Entertainment Television. Starting from September 17th to Sunday September 23rd, 2007 every night at 9.00 pm, Indian Idol will bring to viewers some exciting and never-seen-before excerpts from the musical journey and the dream run of Amit Paul and Prashant Tamang.

Monday September 17th – We showcase to the viewers the musical journey of Prashant Tamang of Darjeeling who bunked duty, (he is from the Kolkata police) to audition for the popular Indian Idol. Little did Prashant realize then, that reaching Indian Idol Top 2 will be a dream come true. Thanks to his Police force & loyal fans, who have supported him from the very beginning! Watch the true story of this modest young man and his rise to the top.

Tuesday September 18th— Track the amazing route of Amit Paul from his home town Shillong to the hustle and bustle of Mumbai and reaching the Top 2 of Indian Idol. Amit will never forget his early eviction, and of course his Wild Card entry! His ardent admirers brought him back and Amit promised them that he would not let them down. There's no looking back for Amit…

Wednesday September 19th – Recount the mind-blowing experience of Amit and Prashant in their respective home towns of Shillong and Darjeeling. Crowds came in mind boggling numbers, both young and old, thronging the homeward route for miles. In picturesque Darjeeling, the crowds went ballistic just to see their simple sepoy Prashant, who brought so much joy and cheer to their lives and made them so proud. While in Shillong, the mountains echoed with the sound of music, as Amit returned home like a hero… to be honored as the ambassador of peace and goodwill for Meghalaya.

Thursday September 20th—We salute the honorable judges of Indian Idol whose months of hard work and training helped shortlist the country's best singing talent among thousands of aspirants. Their efforts will bring to the fore that ONE voice which becomes the voice of the nation. They were sometimes hard on them, sometimes showered them with praises…but never a moment when they missed their performances. Meet the jury behind Indian Idol 3.

Friday September 21st— The viewers will be treated to the rocking performance of Amit and Prashant in Kolkata, their last public performance before the grand finale.

Saturday September 22nd— Prashant & Amit will perform on the Indian Idol stage for the last time. Also, a sneak preview to the second season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Dancing with the stars which goes on air from Friday September 28th.

Sunday September 23rd-- The grand finale of Indian Idol 3 is in Delhi. The three-hour live event will be attended by a galaxy of stars, celebrities, dignitaries among others from 9.00 pm to midnight. Watch this only on Sony Entertainment Television.

To say that - would not be an overstatement; literally the city of Shillong went into a festive jubilation at the news of Amit Paul returning home to meet his people. The usually unmanned and cold streets of Shillong were packed with people and suddenly one could feel the warmth and welcome that they wanted to give to their representative at Indian Idol.

At Guwahati airport, there was a crowd of thousands of crazy fans wanting to have one glimpse of their hero: Amit Paul. From the Guwahati airport to the Bada Pani Lake, Amit halted at every 10 meters to talk and shake hands with his followers, friends and fans. At Bada Pani lake, he was welcomed with a Khasi Tribal dance. “This was a dream and now I believe that some dreams do come true”, says an over excited Amit Paul with tears in his eyes. “This is an experience of a lifetime; these moments will last in my mind forever.”

The crowd followed Amit everywhere making it look like a caravan round the city. Surely this homecoming gave a tough time for the traffic authorities in Shillong to control and monitor the crowd. There were girls who ran behind Amit’s car for over three kilometers to get one autograph!!!

After the Bada Pani Lake, Amit Paul made his way to the Air Marshall house which was crowded with localites’, who wanted to meet Amit Paul, and he came to the gate and met his fans personally. In the evening, at Jawaharlal Nehru sports complex, Amit witnessed and performed to a maddening crowd of over two lakh people. He held them spell bound with his rapturous music and mesmerizing renditions of some of the top chart busters and evergreen songs from 80’s and 90’s.

Surely girls kissing, friends hugging and the crowd wanting to shake hands with this young man shook the life out of him by the evening. But still Amit maintains, “This was the most memorable day in my life at Indian Idol”. It was because of this platform that i got this fame, love and adulation from everybody. “Indian Idol rocks!” says Amit.

At a press meet held this morning at Chief Minister's residence, Amit Paul was honoured with the title of brand ambassaor of peace of Meghalaya.

Javed Akhtar on judging Indian Idol and the fate of the remaining four contestants of the reality show.

Chang has been evicted from Indian Idol..
Yes.. it's very sad that such a talented singer was eliminated but that's the format of the show.

How do you rank the remaining four contestants?
Ankita's presentation skills are very good. Emon has a beautiful voice.. the kind that touches a chord in your heart. Amit Paul's vocals always evoke compliments. As for Prashant, his main advantage is his popularity in the North East. But don't get me wrong.. he's a good singer.

Do you think voting on provincial lines is fair?
No.. but then what can we do about it?

Why is there this perpetual conflict between presentation and singing?
You've got to understand that Indian Idol is an audio-visual medium. The singers have to be good performers as well. In that department, Ankita wins hand down.

Anu Malik does get quite rude at times..
I can only speak for myself. How other people behave is entirely up to them. "We're getting a lot of new blood. But the contestants should realise that there's space for only one at the top. At the same time, those who don't make it shouldn't lose hope either."

The judges always have differing views on the performances..
See, we are different individuals. I think it's better for the audience that we don't agree with each other. This way they get to hear all sides to the story .

Are such talent shows really a boon for the music industry?
Of course! We're getting a lot of new blood. But the contestants should realise that there's space for only one at the top. At the same time, those who don't make it shouldn't lose hope either.

Don't you think there's an overdose of musical talent shows these days?
Then the TRPs of all these shows should have dropped. I see it as a win-win situation.

The audience gets to see what they like, the channels mint money and youngsters get a platform to showcase their talent.

Is it right for the public to choose the Indian idol? After all, what do they know about sur and taal?
Why not? Doesn't the very same public choose who governs us?

Do you think Chang should be given another chance?
Right now there is no plan for a wildcard entry. But if that happens, I would welcome it - but not just for Chang. It would be for Deepali, Abhishek and Parleen as well.

With Ankita Mishra's elimination in Indian Idol, all dreams of having a
girl as Indian Idol this year, has faded away. The graceful performer,
with the never-say die attitude, the spunky Ankita Mishra was surely
the 'Life of Indian Idol'; her performances in every round has been
electrifying and she will be surely missed.

What is your reaction after getting eliminated from Indian Idol?



Ankita: I was completely blank
on stage. When my name was announced, I really didn't know how to
react. I wouldn't say that I didn't expect this, I was prepared for
elimination from the theater rounds. It was a little shocking, since I
wanted to be the girl who would be in the TOP 3, but oh well. I am
disappointed, definitely,




What about Indian Idol are you going to miss the most?


Ankita: I'll miss the stage the
most. The stage that has given me the most recognition. I laughed,
danced and sang on the stage, and that's why I didn't cry on stage,
since it would be unfair.



The judges that you are going to miss the most?



Ankita: Definitely Javed sir
and Annu Malek. They have been so supportive to me. There were so many
things that I would have liked to tell them, but then I was just
completely blank.




What's next in line?



Ankita: Well, I'll go back
home, and spend time with my family and friends, who I haven't been in
touch with. And go back to studying; however, I do plan to persue my
career in music too.



Do you plan to make it big in Mumbai, or heading off to Kanpur again?



Ankita: I am planning to move to Mumbai and try to make it big as a singer, along with studying science.


Any message for the remaining contestants?



Ankita: I would like to wish them all the best. May the best contestant win!
